Tack Desktop

Never miss an important moment in your meetings

What is Tack Desktop?

Tack Desktop is a Windows app that captures audio during your Teams and Zoom calls. When someone says something important, hit a button to save the last 30 seconds. No more scrambling to write down tasks or action items while you're trying to focus on the conversation.

Think of it as a 30-second rewind button for your meetings. Everything stays on your computer — nothing goes to the cloud.

Note: The desktop app has two distinct features:

  • Tack That — Audio capture (30-second recall from meetings)
  • Quick Tack — Fast text notes (type quick reminders)

How it works

1. Runs in the background

Tack Desktop lives in your system tray and continuously captures audio from your meetings. It keeps a rolling 30-second buffer — like a DVR for your calls. Nothing is saved until you tell it to.

2. Hit the button when something matters

When someone assigns you a task, mentions an important deadline, or shares something you need to remember, press the “Tack That!” button (or hit Ctrl+Shift+T). Tack instantly saves the last 30 seconds.

You get a quick toast notification confirming it saved. No interruption to your meeting.

3. Review and act later

After your meeting, open Tack Desktop to review what you saved. Listen to the audio, see what was said, and decide what needs action. You can play back just the system audio (what others said), just your microphone (what you said), or both mixed together.

Key features

30-second instant recall

Always recording the last 30 seconds in a rolling buffer. When you press “Tack That!”, it instantly saves what just happened — no lag, no delay.

Dual-track recording

Captures both system audio (what you hear in your headphones — the other people on the call) and your microphone (what you say). You can play back each track separately or mixed together.

Global hotkey

Press Ctrl+Shift+T from anywhere — even when the app is minimized to the tray. No need to switch windows mid-meeting.

Local-only storage

All audio is saved to your computer. Nothing is uploaded to the cloud. You stay in complete control of your meeting recordings.

AI task extraction (Tack That)

After you save a clip with Tack That, Tack can analyze the audio and automatically extract action items. Tasks are added to your triage board so you don't have to manually type them out.

Quick Tack for text notes

In addition to audio capture, the desktop app includes Quick Tack — a fast text input for jotting down notes, reminders, or tasks without audio. Perfect for quick thoughts that don't need the 30-second recall feature.

System tray integration

Runs quietly in your system tray. Right-click the icon to start/stop capture, save a clip, or show the main window. Left-click to restore the window when you need it.

Getting started

Download and install

Head to the downloads page and grab the Windows installer. Run it and follow the prompts.

Windows might show a security warning because the app isn't code-signed yet. This is normal for new applications — just click “More info” and then “Run anyway”.

System requirements

  • Windows 10 (version 1809 or later) or Windows 11
  • Microphone and audio output device
  • WebView2 Runtime (included with the installer)

First use

After installing, Tack Desktop will appear in your system tray (the area near the clock in the bottom-right corner). Click the icon to open the main window.

Click “Start Capture” to begin recording. Join a Teams or Zoom call and test it out — when someone says something you want to remember, press the “Tack That!” button or hit Ctrl+Shift+T.

Tips for getting the most out of tack desktop

  • Start capture before meetings: Get in the habit of starting capture when you join a call so you don't miss anything important.
  • Use the hotkey: Ctrl+Shift+T is much faster than clicking the button — you can save moments without breaking your flow.
  • Review after meetings: Spend a few minutes after each call to review your saved clips and extract action items while the context is fresh.
  • Separate tracks for clarity: If you need to hear exactly what someone else said, play back just the system audio track. If you want to hear your own response, use the microphone track.
  • Let Tack run in the background: You don't need to close Tack between meetings — let it run in the system tray so it's ready whenever you need it.

Privacy and data

Tack Desktop stores all audio files locally on your computer. By default, files are saved to your temp folder (%TEMP%\tack_captures\).

Nothing is uploaded to the cloud unless you choose to. The audio stays on your device, under your control. If you use the AI task extraction feature, only the audio you explicitly choose to process is sent to the AI service — never automatically.

Tack keeps a maximum of 20 saved clips. Older clips are automatically deleted to save disk space, but you can manually delete clips anytime.

Troubleshooting

App won't start or crashes

  • Make sure you're on Windows 10 (version 1809+) or Windows 11
  • Check that WebView2 Runtime is installed (it should be included with the installer)
  • Try restarting your computer

Audio isn't being captured

  • Confirm capture is started (click “Start Capture”)
  • Check that your microphone and speakers are working in Windows settings
  • Make sure Teams or Zoom has permission to use your microphone
  • Try stopping and restarting capture

Hotkey isn't working

Make sure no other app is using Ctrl+Shift+T. If there's a conflict, you can change the hotkey in Settings (coming soon).
