getting started with tack

welcome! let's get you set up to protect your attention

what is tack, anyway?

tack isn't another inbox. it's a quiet layer of calm between you and the chaos of notifications. it filters what's urgent, lets everything else wait, and helps you act fast without breaking focus.

think of it as a notification shield that only lets through what truly needs your attention right now.

getting set up

1. connect your account

sign in with your microsoft work or school account. tack uses microsoft entra ID, so you don't need a new password.

see the full m365 connector guide →

2. choose what to connect

pick what you want tack to access:

  • email & calendar — sync outlook messages and know when you're busy
  • teams messages — pull in chats and mentions
  • presence & calls — see when you're on a call

you can change these later in settings — no pressure to get it perfect now.

3. let tack sync

tack will start pulling in your messages. the first sync can take a few minutes. once it's done, you'll see your notifications organized into now, next break, and tomorrow morning.

understanding triage buckets

⚡ now (urgent)

stuff that needs your attention right away. tack will ping you when something lands here. things like high-priority emails, direct mentions, or messages from your manager.

☕ next break

can wait until your next break. check this between meetings or focus sessions. team updates, fyi messages, and threads you're cc'd on land here.

🌅 tomorrow morning

not time-sensitive. review it when you plan your day tomorrow. long reads, planning discussions, and stuff that arrived late in the day go here.

you can move messages between buckets with a single click. tack learns from your choices and gets smarter over time.

quick actions

every notification card has fast actions so you can respond without switching apps:

  • mark done — you've handled it, remove it from the list
  • archive — send to your email archive
  • mark read — acknowledge without acting
  • open in app — deep link to outlook or teams when you need to write a long reply

most actions happen in one click. no switching apps, no breaking focus.

tips for getting the most out of tack

  • trust the triage: let tack hold non-urgent messages. you don't need to check everything immediately.
  • batch process next break: instead of context-switching all day, check your next break bucket between meetings.
  • use quick actions: mark done, archive, or mark read right from tack. save outlook for long replies.
  • teach tack what's urgent: when you move messages between buckets, tack learns your priorities.
  • check tomorrow morning daily: make it part of your morning routine to review and clear out your tomorrow morning bucket.

what tack doesn't do

tack is a triage layer, not a replacement for your email client:

  • it doesn't replace outlook or teams — it works alongside them
  • for long emails or complex threads, click “open in outlook”
  • tack doesn't store full message content after you act on it (for privacy)
  • it focuses on recent messages, not your entire email archive
